In Utah the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) rounds up the wild horses from BLM land and adopts them out to locals. We went to see up close and my heart just melted. With shaggy coats that looked more like llama tuffs than what should be on a horse I wanted to bring one home with me. Watery big brown eyes looked right into my soul and resisted the hands of humans, instead searching for the wildness of the land they’d just been taken from. Imagine, a hundred years ago, when huge herds of these magnificent animals roamed all of our southwest.
