Sorry!

While home visiting I had camera in hand most of the time. I just sat and took shot after shot as they played Sorry. What fun, I loved the pics of Pyper's hand and foot. Beth Rimmer's Fashionista! The Embellies and The Papers was just so perfect for this page of Pyper. I wanted to find the same font that is used on the game but settled for Ringbearer, close enough.

Artsy Photo Masks

Utah in the Winter has been a new experience and nothing could top it more than this gorgeous sky that showed up the other night. I was busy at the computer and happened to look up, ran and grabbed the camera and shot some breath taking winter skies. Not long after that Beth asked if I had something to try her new Artsy Photo Masks with, I knew I had just the thing. When I applied the mask instantly this verse from the America the Beautiful came to mind. Wonderful how things just seem to fall into place sometimes!

This page also uses Across the Years Papers 10, 14 and 18 blended together. I'm getting to the point I rarely make a page anymore where I don't blend papers or apply masks. A New Year's resolution I made was to learn new things to add to my bag of tricks. It's just amazing though how much I've learned the past few years. For any of you just beginning with a graphics program my words of advice would be to just keep playing and playing. The more you play the more you discover, the more you discover the more you use over and over again. Which in turn leads to your comfort level. When you're comfortable with your program what once was hard and time consuming now you'll do without much thought. I'm especially fond of learning shortcuts, it's just so cool to know which keystrokes will make you zoom along faster. Geez what a fun hobby this is!

Mom has this little spot just as you park at her Apartment Complex and I've always loved the look of the path and Street Lamps. It's short!, just a few feet but taken at this angle it lets the imagination wander and feel like the path extends forever. So, don't be stopped by what you see when you take photos, instead take what the mind sees but isn't there. Amazing what Beth's photo masks do for an ordinary photo. The quote is my own, you're more than welcome to use it, I'd love if you'd credit me though.

Baking Cookies with Grandma

The girls had had a fund raiser earlier in the year, selling cookies for school. I ordered bucket from each but told them just to pick what they liked. Well they decided they liked sugar cookies and would get them and save them for when I came home to visit over Halloween. Time seemed to be really disappearing, as it always does when I'm home, but we managed to squeeze a couple hours out to bake the cookies.

Grandma, in her infinite wisdom, was busy putting frosting on the tops as they cooled when Mommy kindly informed her the girls could do it themsleves. LOL it's hard to give up control you know! Well I handed over spoon, frosting bowl and sprinkles and grabbed my camera instead. Great choice Grandma!

They did a super job decorating and I even managed to make it all the way home on the plane with a few cookies that were only slightly damaged. Let me assure you Paul didn't mind a few crumbs here and there and was happily mummbling how good they were. These are the memories that last a life time. One of the my girls, I think Amber, still has the Junior Cookbook I gave the kids eons ago when they were about Zoie's age. Fun times which pass way way toooooo quickly!!!

I used Beth Rimmer's Fruitcake Folly for Zoie's page and her More Fruitcake, Please - Embellies and Papers for Pypers. I just love the look of felt here, I thought these would make a good two pager for their books.

Las Vegas Getaway

We took a couple days, cashed in some comps and rolled into Vegas on Wednesday, by that night Paul had hit a jackpot and had a smile from ear to ear. The winds were fierce and by Thursday night the skies looked ominous framing the Eiffel Tower directly in front our of hotel window. It was a fun trip, we took in Hats and had our photo taken, ate at Margaretiaville which is always a blast and even walked the strip! Next time we'll cut it to one day and night of play and stay and then wander on home happy campers. Unfortunately, as always, my pockets were empty and lonely by the time we pulled in the driveway, but more memories for our book and a nice break from unpacking. 5-21/22-2008

I used Beth Rimmer's newest kit Board Shorts! at Digitals. I'm sure it's not what she had in mind when she designed it but the colors and patterns were perfect to go with our Paris Paris photos. That's the joy of working with digital it is so versatile and can just be used a multitude of ways!

I also used a tip from Linda Sattgast's newsletter about duplicating your photo, adding a stroke and then tilting them. I loved this photo I shot of the wicked sky behind the Eiffel Tower but it just didn't have much punch until I followed her suggestions. Then tucking our photo between the layers gave it the dimension the page needed. Spiderman Rains!

The weather for Spring has been unusally HOT! this past week. In Washington State where my grandkids are my youngest grandson was thoroughly enjoying his new Spiderman Slip and Slide. I love the pics!

I used Beth Rimmer's Enchanted Garden to make my page. This kit has some real cool elements in it. But then all of Beth's kits are stupendous! Check them out at Digitals.

Here's a page I just completed using a take on the QP and Beth's kit. It was for the Me, My, Mine Challenge at Digitals this month. You were to do a page about you and your favorite color, and why it was. This was an easy one for me!

The journaing reads:

My favorite color, oh that's so easy, it's red, with no hesitation, no question. Why, easy enough, it makes me feel alive, it makes me feel happy, and sometimes it makes me feel naughty! My Momma, shown here in the photo on the left always has teased me when I've bought something red, asking me 'what I was up to!'. My Aunty Flo, she's the one on the lower bottom and the one with her arm around my Momma, always loved red. Momma has said she'd don it when she was feeling feisty in the young days of her marriage. My Aunty was my special person. That person who comes in your life and makes the sun shine on the most dreary of days. I loved her so and miss her so very much. The top photo is me, one of the ones I actually like in school. This was probably the age I was when I spent a few weeks in California with Aunty Flo and Uncle Vic. This time together cemented the affinity I felt with this woman. She left us much too soon, and a place in my heart cries for her and the missing part of my life she never got to share. The other part of me is so very happy I knew and loved her. And when I don red, I smile and inevitably think of this lady

Two New Heritage Pages

Great Grandparents:
I don't know why but I felt like this Psalm would fit them. In my mind and heart I felt they loved one another very deeply, whether this be fiction or truth I do not know. My Great Grandmother had four children, my Grandfather five. Grandma Eva died in 1905 and Grandpa remarried in 1908 and lived until 1939. Credit - Surrender - Beth Rimmer at Digitals

Mandy -

This is Mandy Debus and her daughter Thelma (the one on the left in the rocking chair). I've always been fascinated by the photo of Mandy with her long hair. It's dated 1908. Mandy married my Great-Grandpa John in 1908 and I think Thelma was born in 1911, the same year Dad was born. Daddy is the one on the right in the chair next to Thelma. Grandma never had too kind of words to say about Mandy. I think though, looking at it from an adult perspective, losing your mother when you are 10, as Grandma had, made it hard for her to accept someone taking her Mother's place. Grandma Terry got tickets to the Polar Express train in Hood River Oregon for us. It was a rainy icky night and we ended up in the caboose. But you know, even though the sound wasn’t the best, and it wasn’t exactly what we had anticipated it was still a super time being the Johnson Family!!!
